Title: Dark Cloud 2
Platform: Playstation 2
Genre: single-player action RPG
Developer: Level-5
Rating: T
With only key playability concepts taken from it's previous title, DC2 isn't related at all to the original. It takes concepts like weapon modification by the use of different crystals to the next level with more refinement and adds several new little fun extras. As far as plot, it's got a good one that seems predictable until you get nearer and nearer to the end. The twist results in quite the epic battle, too, so make sure the entire game you prepare both Max and Monica for one hell of a fight. Take advantage of the invention system, too. Things that can make the game itself just a whole lot more fun are taking part in the Finny Frenzy and Fishing Contest, if you like catching/raising fish, or Spheda if you feel some weird golf spin-off is more your thing. The soundtrack to this game is very charming and the monsters in each dungeon system are more often than not, stronger versions of ones seen earlier. But don't underestimate them - they may look the same, but if you're not ready they will kick your ass. Overall, it's very enjoyable. Can be beaten in about 100 hours if you don't spend time messing around and having fun, but then what's the point? The whole idea of "rebuild the towns to advance in the game's plot" is the same as the previous game, but the methods and criteria are completely different. Highly reccomended for anyone who likes real-time RPGs and doesn't mind the more cartoon-ish style that is typical of Level-5.
